Some one decided to bury the monolith for some reason, which seems silly to me and is likely to cause bugs but the point is when you log on you'll have an arrow to a settlement and can play the game again!

I noticed yesterday that the monolith seemed to place itself at least once. Unless someone decided to put it on a tiny island and deny that they placed it...

Alas. I found a Monolith token today, after i managed to get the AI to defeat a base that was randomly placed. Then I realised the extent to which our world is totally overrun by AI. If you find a place in your wanderings that would be suitable for a base, put the co-ords up in here, but i think no matter where it is, the AI will prove too strong. Maybe if we managed to organise a time we could get a few of us together to try as a group?

Yes ekib that is exactly the problem. I dont know how many places we tried the last 35 hours but it must have been 10 attempts to settle down. Once we choosed a high up mountain and digged in from top. Monolith got sniped after 30 minutes. Than i build a sarcophagus kind of for the mono. We got overrun from several directions in no time. Than we had the "burrie it in deep" concept which dident work either. My view here is...due to that we dident had a settlement since the last big one from sunday got destroyed, the AI had enough leeway to settle down and take over the planet in no time. We might be able to fight back but even IF we whould have suffice numbers ( and i mean over 10 here ) we couldent rely on more power or weapons since its virtually impossible at the moment to settle down. To prevent such things in the future. It might be good to scale down the AIs agressivness according to how many players are on at the given time. That way we could at least get a foothold. I have send an email to Eskil explaining the situation. Lets see if we get anything out of this. Other than that, if we could agree to one time and use vent we might be successful with "operation cleansweep" . OR what would be even more awesome, a function to call help from another planet ( read, server ) They would fly in with weapons and power and help us fight back the AI. Would be an awesome help. I think what needs to happen is a settlement geared to AI hunting, a good bunch of us get together drop a lith and go token hunting and just quickly grab and drop everything we can get our hands on. By which i mean there's no point trying to establishes our self's since it will be blown up. If we can get our selfs tooled up a little more for AI killing and then go and take out a base or two while the lith is being blown up again we can maybe clear enough to give us some reasonable breathing room setting up the new settlement

I think the main problem with the AI is that it's completely relentless, it's not like they try for a bit and then back down - they just endlessly run at our lith until until it's destroyed.

It's not that hard to take down AI bases, given there's so many the main place to find tokens at the moment is in them, before i took down a few smaller ones and one large one on my own with starting equipment... you can die a few times but if you can find the respawners then clear out the rest of the AI the base should fall apart. That said a new AI base popped up right next to the lith just before and even with the spawners disabled they kept going and kept on coming. pain in the ass

At least the AI doesn't build bases with perfect infrastructure on high hills anymore, at least not all the time. But nonetheless, it is always just incredebly agressive, even during nighttime. AI activity should scale with the Player activity. Also their artillery is unbearable. What we need are: -less agressive AI -more solid landscape-generator that reduces the amount of sudden steps and holes all over the landscape fairly quickly. I've been resetting my position quite often now just to end up in another one-squared hole -less AI. They are just too many -some kind of "Ignorance" for the AI, that makes the blind towards settlements smaller than 5 tokens or so.

I am currently running around with 4 key tokens (Radio, Config Tool, Blaster, Building) but I can't do anything because we havent had a lith operating for over an hour. The AI needs to back off for a bit instead of just honing in on any settlement as soon as it's started.

If I'm understanding Eskil's latest news post correctly, we should have a new patch very soon. If we're lucky, maybe this will get toned down a bit... But yeah, the AI is a tad absurd at the moment.

I burried the mono again. Its inside a plateau. I placed it on a gangway that reached through it. Its 6x block on each side to outside and we spawn on top of the plateau.Funny enough while i filed up the gap some AI glitched through the wall shooting at the mono. |

Settlement is now fully operational, we have a power grid set up and a large selection of tools available including the Radio, HyperBlaster, and a load of building tools. Has so far proved impenetrable to AI... touch wood |

Hello people. I just joined the alpha yesterday and managed to do some running around while desperately looking for a place to stay, but only getting greeted by the glare of energy weapons and laser sights. Eventually I decided to put down a monolith as I seemed to find those tokens quite often. I'd go and check the coordinates again but I'm at work, but it must have been somewhere between 70-90:70-90:R. Sorry for the vagueness. There's a handful of tall earth pillars around, and the monolith is right next to one. I erected a crude little building around the monolith, but I have no idea how much that'll help keeping it safe. Then I found a turret token, accidentally placed it on the building's roof, and it was just gone when I came back later. Now there should be a terrain smoothing tool in the building aswell. I also tried to scout out an AI base at around 100:100:R, and marked some artillery unit and a rocket turret for reference. As you might notice, I'm somewhat excited about this game, and I see the mean AI situation as an opportunity to learn the ropes in some early settlement construction right away. I just wish I could get in touch with someone else in the game, as I haven't seen anyone yet. Dying to get a friggin' radio tower, man... If you wanna see Amicus out there, sound off. I'd appreciate the company. Edit: Right, so my creations didn't quite survive the night. I found my way back to the site and discovered a crater with two trees growing out of it. There were a few troopers there, which I killed off, but also two new power wells. Coords are 31:66:R. Still looking for company! Last edited by Amicus; 11-23-2009 at 11:52 AM. I have a monolith set up at 114:82:I. With the help of some friends, we also have a teleporter at 110:83:I, and we are currently protected by a forcefield operating at full capacity. EDIT: Nevermind, Dynon was just thorougly screwed over by a well-placed artillery shot. The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard indeed. Last edited by ChazFox; 12-21-2009 at 06:17 AM. |
